Chelsea’s loss against Tottenham last week will live long in the memory for the Blues. For the first time this season, Maurizio Sarri’s men were outplayed, and by their arch-rivals no less.
Tottenham dominated the game from the start, and Mauricio Pochettino got his tactics spot on. Crucially, his game plan worked perfectly, and his focus on Jorginho effectively nullified Chelsea’s threat, and in the end, it was a pretty poor loss for the Blues.
So, that must lead to a bit of a tactical-shift from Maurizio Sarari against Fulham this week. Tottenham found the key to beating the Blues, and now every team going forward will attempt to do the same – beginning on Sunday.
Fortunately, Sarri does have other options other than Jorginho, and one man that could come in and make a difference is Cesc Fabregas. In contrast to Jorginho, Fabregas has plenty of experience playing in a variety of roles through the midfield, and he’s undeniably more versatile than the Italian.
Significantly, Chelsea’s win over PAOK on Thursday proved that the Spaniard can consider himself seriously hard done by not to have been a regular this term. He was one of the best players on the pitch for Chelsea, and he was able to control the game – which is exactly what Jorginho wasn’t able to do last week. Granted, the two oppositions were very different, but Fabregas can only prove his worth when he’s on the field.
Simply put, Jorginho wasn’t able to cope with the pressure of being focused on against Tottenham, and Fabregas may fair far better. He deserves a chance, and surely he can’t do any worse than Jorginho did?
Thoughts?
