With the international break finally out of the way, we at FootballFanCast can’t wait for the Premier League to start up again this weekend – especially with the North West Derby scheduled for Monday night!
The two clubs may not be privy to the success of prior decades but this fixture, whether hosted at Anfield or Old Trafford, remains the most talked about and hotly-anticipated on the Premier League calendar.
There’s no love lost between the two sets of fans, who happily partake in a never-ending battle of online trolling and singing matches across the terraces.
That being said, we at FFC have a sneaking suspicion both groups of supporters respect the quality of the opposition.
With that in mind, we asked Liverpool fans earlier this week to tell us which Manchester United stars they’d like to see at Anfield in one of our exclusive polls.
The results are now in and FFC can reveal the top five – and surprisingly enough, £89million world-record signing Paul Pogba misses out!
5. JUAN MATA
A tricky, slight and entertaining attacker, it’s only a lack of natural athleticism that would make Juan Mata a poor fit for Liverpool’s starting XI. That being said, the attacking midfielder’s talent is undoubted and he’s already bagged one goal and two assists this season.
4. ANTHONY MARTIAL
Anthony Martial’s endured a tough start to life under Jose Mourinho, with off-field issues also a factor, having to wait until two weekends ago to find his first Premier League goal of the campaign. Nonetheless, the 20-year-old remains one of the most exciting youngsters in world football and it appears a fair few Liverpool fans wouldn’t mind having him at their club’s disposal.
3. HENRIKH MKHITARYAN
Liverpool famously tried to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan before he moved to Borussia Dortmund and a significant chunk of supporters would still like to see him grace the Anfield grass – in their colours, of course. We’re still waiting for the Armenian to make the impact expected in the Premier League but after overcoming an early-season injury, he should be available for Monday’s game.
2. MARCUS RASHFORD
Quick, versatile and simply lethal in front of goal, Marcus Rashford would fit perfectly into the current Liverpool line-up. Furthermore, the rookie goalscorer is rapidly developing a reputation as one of the most promising youngsters the Premier League has to offer, boasting a top-flight return of eight in 16 at just 18 years of age.
1. DAVID DE GEA
Liverpool may have bought a new goalkeeper in Loris Karius during the summer but the fans still view David De Gea as a significant upgrade. It’s no surprise to see him topping this list; the No.1 jersey has been a controversial topic at Anfield throughout Simon Mignolet’s tenure and the United star is arguably the best shot-stopper in the world.
