Liverpool have been linked with a move for Youssoufa Moukoko in 2023 and now a new update has emerged from a reliable source on the club’s pursuit of the player.
What’s the latest?
CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has revealed an update on the Premier League transfer battle set to take place for the signing of the Borussia Dortmund striker.
Jacobs tweeted: “Multiple Premier League clubs are prepared to sign Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko in January even though, if he doesn’t agree a new deal, he’s available on a free this summer. Chelsea leading the race. Prior to Armando Broja’s injury they were making progress on a summer deal.”
Following up his original tweet with a further claim on Liverpool’s involvement: “Manchester United are also considering moving earlier and could be promoted by what other suitors do. They have tracked Moukoko for quite some time but are not advanced in talks. Liverpool and Spurs big admirers of Moukoko as well.”
Imagine him and DiazThere is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp will be looking for the next generation of talent who can make an impact at Anfield, as the current team is starting to reach the latter stages of their careers.Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, Mohammed Salah, James Milner, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara are all in their 30s at this point – in fact, Liverpool fielded the joint-oldest Premier League starting XI in their clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage on the opening weekend of the campaign.Fortunately, the powers at Anfield have already begun to redevelop the forward line with the signings of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez earlier this year but with Firmino out of contract in the summer and several injuries plaguing the attacking threat, further depth could be something worth considering. The signing of Moukoko would be a major coup for the Reds, as the young talent has been impressing whilst rising through the ranks of the youth set-up at Dortmund over the last few years and has finally earned his opportunity to become a regular feature in the first team this season.Over 14 Bundesliga appearances, the goal machine – who was incredibly dubbed the “biggest talent in the world” by Erling Haaland – has scored six goals, delivered three assists and created two big chances, as well as averaging 1.9 shots on goal and 2.2 duels won per game. Those stats are impressive but when you consider the fact that he only turned 18 in November, they become astonishing. This season hasn’t been a one-off for Moukoko either, as he has already tallied up a whopping 153 goals and 35 assists over his career with a goal contribution every 51 minutes so far. With that in mind, the idea of him linking up with the club’s new generation in Diaz and Nunez is incredibly mouthwatering for supporters.Indeed, Klopp could form a deadly attacking partnership between them if the club can secure Moukoko’s signature in the new year.Combine Diaz’s work rate and ability to get into the most dangerous positions on the pitch with the German striker’s keen eye for goal and it could be a nightmare for opponents.Last term, the Colombian registered an eye-catching 11 assists, something that would go down very nicely with the Dortmund wonderkid in an offensive area. With that being said, Liverpool must do everything to beat their Premier League rivals to the signing of Moukoko as he could add even more quality to the side’s formidable front three.
