This season was meant to mark a new era for Tottenham, with the north London club returning to the newly-built White Hart Lane.
But the move hasn’t happened yet and as Mauricio Pochettino’s side continue to play their home games at Wembley, it’s become pretty much anyone’s guess when they will grace the pitch at their spiritual home once again.
The delays have disgruntled certain sections of Spurs fans, who feel the club have kept them in the dark over realistic expectations for when the rejuvenated White Hart Lane will be able to host their Premier League fixtures.
And Tottenham expert Sean Cook, the man behind the hugely popular @TalkingTHFC Twitter account, believes the Lilywhites could have saved them all this trouble by initially agreeing to staying at their temporary home for two seasons instead of one.
Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast’s Fixture in Focus Podcast, Sean said; “The easiest solution to the whole thing would have just been to have done a second year at Wembley. I think what the club and the staff were trying to do is shorten that stay as much as possible just so we can get into that stadium, get back to Tottenham and crack on from there.
“If it goes into the new year and we’re still not at home we might as well carry on at Wembley. I don’t see a reason against that. Another factor to consider – not only is the stadium not ready, the surrounding area of Tottenham High Road and the station and there abouts isn’t ready to handle events of this scale. It’s just not.
“It’s going to be a couple of years, two or three years, before the area is ready. And as a result, if we can stay at Wembley beyond the new year that might be the most practical solution just to make sure that every single factor is ready for this new move.”
