Marcos Rojo returned to the field on Wednesday night as Manchester United Under-23s recorded a 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao Under-23s in the Premier League International Cup.
The Argentine has been sidelined for the first team since suffering knee ligament damage in the Europa League clash against Anderlecht in April.
Rojo has returned to training over the last few weeks, however, and was handed 45 minutes against Bilbao on Wednesday as the centre-back stepped up his recovery from injury.
The 27-year-old revealed after the match that he is targeting a return to the first team ‘in three weeks’, and that would be a major boost for United boss Jose Mourinho ahead of the busy festive period.
Rojo, who is valued at £16.2m by transfermarkt.co.uk, formed an impressive centre-back partnership with Phil Jones in the second half of last season, although he faces a difficult task breaking into a defence which has been the best in the Premier League this term.
One thing is for sure though, the United fans are delighted to have their tough-tackling Argentine back on the field.
