After the game, the 24-year-old took to Instagram to share his reaction to equalling his idol's record, writing: "A special day. It's an honor to carry the same goals as my idol, and together, we are the Brazilian with the most goals in the history of this club. I came here as a child, and he has taught me the way of the goal. Thanks for the tips and reassurance, @ronaldo PHENOMENON R9!"

The Brazilian had a bittersweet outing against Valencia as he missed a penalty at the start of the game. He took the spot-kick in the 12th minute after Kylian Mbappe was brought down by Cesar Tarrega inside the Valencia penalty box. Unfortunately, the winger failed to break the deadlock as Liverpool-bound Giorgi Mamardashvili comfortably saved his feeble effort. He made amends, however, by scoring the equaliser in the 50th minute, but Los Blancos' celebrations were short-lived as Huge Duro scored the winner in injury time.
