Newcastle United are considering reviving their pursuit of Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen in the summer, according to The Northern Echo.
What’s the latest?
The Magpies have lacked firepower all season due to the likes of Joselu and Dwight Gayle misfiring.
In fact, the pair have netted just seven goals between them so far, and the team in total have scored 24 goals in 26 Premier League outings.
Leicester City forward Islam Slimani eventually joined the Magpies on loan until the end of the season, but Jorgensen was said to be a major target.
According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle failed to agree a fee with Anderlecht for Jorgensen’s signature in January but they will keep track of the forward ahead of a potential summer swoop.
Is a deal likely?
One can assume that a lot will depend on where Newcastle will be playing football next season.
If Rafael Benitez’s side manage to retain their top-flight status, then Jorgensen is more likely to lean towards a switch to St James’ Park.
If not, it may be difficult to convince the Dane to join if the Magpies in the Championship.
At the moment, though, with the club just one point above the relegation zone, they should put their summer shopping list on the back-burner and focus on the challenge at hand.
